 1) Jelly Roll, eigentlich Ferdinand Joseph La Menthe [la'mãt], amerikanischer Jazzmusiker (Klavier, Komposition), * Gulfport (La.) 20. 10. 1885, ✝ Los Angeles (Calif.) 10. 7. 1941; begann seine Laufbahn um 1900 als Pianist in New Orleans und wirkte in den 20er-Jahren v. a. in Chicago, wo er 1926-30 die »Red Hot Peppers« leitete. Morton, dessen Spiel Ragtime und Blues miteinander verband und der sich selbst die »Erfindung« des Jazz zuschrieb, war von herausragender Bedeutung für die Entwicklung des frühen Jazz beziehungsweise des Jazzpianostils.
 
 2) William Thomas Green, amerikanischer Zahnarzt, * Charlton (Massachusetts) 9. 8. 1819, ✝ New York 15. 7. 1868; wandte 1846 zuerst die Äthernarkose bei einer Zahnextraktion an und führte im gleichen Jahr die erste erfolgreiche Äthernarkose bei einer Operation durch.
